Accompanist

I have been active as an accompanist since I was in middle school. I had subbed as a piano player for my church starting at age 10, but my first real experience came when I was named the accompanist for my middle school chorus. I continued accompanying the school choirs throughout high school, and I was chosen as an accompanist for PMEA District and Region Choruses in 1992. During my undergraduate training I was the principal accompanist for the Penn State Men's Glee Club, and the Penn State Concert Choir. I also was a staff accompanist for Penn State Campus Ministries, where I played piano and organ for multiple weekly liturgies and ecumenical services. I also accompanied other music majors for their recitals, juries, and studio classes. It was around this time that I realized how much I appreciated collaborating with other artists.

I went on to teach music in public and private schools, and I worked more than a decade as a staff accompanist for a local university. The university work helped me to keep my piano chops, and they afforded me the opportunity to accompany many more college recitals, juries, and studio classes, in addition to two Opera Workshop productions each year. When I left full time teaching, I was hired as a full-time music director for a regional theatre. This opportunity was a great experience, because it involved music directing ten to twelve fully staged musicals per season. I typically served as my own rehearsal accompanist, and I was active in the process from auditions through the final curtain.

Currently, I accompany a lot of cabaret and concert performances. I particularly enjoy the Mount Gretna Summer Concert Series. These concerts are performed at the Mount Gretna Tabernacle in the hills of Eastern Pennsylvania, and they draw amazing crowds. I also have an active schedule with two concert series in Newtown, PA.
